Fluidigm Challenges Odds in Attempting IPO Today!

Gajus Worthington, President, CEO, and co-founder of Fluidigm, a local biotech, has challenged in the past what is impossible for most when he and his brother built a house in an inaccessible part of the far north of our continent. He told this astounding story with photos of their challenge to a group of industry professionals to demonstrate how he saw the challenges and skills needed to build a biotech company.
Now I read he is taking on another seemingly impossible venture–trying to take his local biotech company Fluidigm public today in the face of the tumultuous events which have occurred in the financial industry, let alone a closed IPO window. Only 4 venture-backed biotech and health care companies (two technology companies) have IPOed in 2008 vs. 86 in 2007. See the full story “In an Unsettled Market, A Biotech Company Called Fluidigm is About to Go Public.” This will certainly be a phenomenal test of his leadership and guts.
