Write Business Assessment Using Gratis Access to Professional Databases

UC Berkeley Extension Intensive Course to Enhance Your Skills

It’s spring, a time of new growth all around us. It’s also an excellent time to take a course to update one’s professional skills and/or fill in gaps in preparation for a career change or advancement. You’ll have an opportunity to learn how to do professional level industry business and marketing research and analysis for outstanding decision-making in all industry functions in my upcoming “Life Science Business and Marketing: Their Integral Role for Success.” In addition, for this course only, you’ll have access to premier research tools. Windhover/Elsevier has graciously agreed to provide gratis access to several of their online research tools for use in developing a term investment assessment project. Registered students will have access to their online deal database Strategic Transactions and Inteleos as well as the periodicals In Vivo, Start Up, and Medtech Insight until June 25, 2012.

The intensive two-days of classroom lectures will take place on Thursday and Friday, April 19-20, 2012 in Belmont at the UC Berkeley Extension site at 1301 Shoreway Road off the Ralston exit of 101. As instructor I will provide coaching while students work during the term on their individual project due on June 25, 2012. See details at and register at If you have questions, send me an email at

Venture Funding Up

Have a great spring time and much success as our industry shows the signs of a recovery as well. Cynthia Robbins-Roth, Ph.D. reports in BioWorld Today  that the first three months of 2012 saw U.S. biotech venture rounds up—totaling $391 million. That’s a 34 percent increase vs. the first quarter of 2011. The more exciting news in that the biggest jump occurred in the early rounds of seed deals and series A.
